WALL OF INVISIBLE DIFFERENCE

Residing in the space immediately in front of artist Jackie Kazarian's 12-foot painting, "Mary", this full-length dance work expresses the tension and beauty of difference within compressed geography. "Mary" is saturated with color and pattern, as well as story, permeated by Kazarian's personal memories of her Armenian grandmother. Set to songs from Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov's "Ayre", the solo and duet dances follow the expansive range of the song cycle, whose folk origins span many emotions, languages and locations.

"Though rooted in dance, her company takes its cues from the visual-art world. The dancers move as if they are mobile brush strokes or pieces of clay being molded into non-static emotion-scapes." – Chicago Tribune
